It all starts with wood.

It really does start with the wood. Where some people see the makings of a hot fire, I see bowls and platters and wooden Christmas trees. The cool thing about wood is you’re never really sure what you’re going to end up with. Sometimes I’ll pick up a log with the intention of making a bowl but the wood is not cooperative and clearly has other plans. So I wind up with a hollow form vase or a platter. Or sometimes the wood has no interest at all in becoming an object of beauty and yeah, those do become firewood.

I’m a fortunate man in that rather than complain about the stacks (and stacks and stacks… you get the idea) of wood in our garage, my wife is actually always on the hunt for more! Ok, she might complain a bit on cold winter mornings when she is parked in the driveway rather than the warm garage but for the most part, she’s a good sport.

If you are cutting down trees in the Metro Atlanta area, please keep me in mind for your logs. I’ll bring my chainsaw, and a hand-turned treasure for you as thanks, and take some of them off your hands. Who knows? You might see your wood turned into beautiful things at a future craft show.
